Bici in U. City to close June 29

Bici

Chef-owner Steve Werner has announced that his Bici Cafe, 7401 Pershing Avenue in University City, will close June 29.

"We've had great success for five years, but our landlord wanted to raise our rent too much, so I'm moving on," Werner said, adding that he has another project in the planning stages in Clayton.

Bici is one of a string of restaurants in the area whose original development was done by chef Mike Johnson, who helped to open Bici in June, 2008. Its name is the Italian word for "bicycle," reflecting the location's long-ago role as a bicycle store. Its original Post-Dispatch review can be found here, and a recipe for its mushroom ravioli can be found here
