Whether you're planning a dinner-and-a-movie date or looking for a quick bite before or after a film — though definitely not anything you have snuck in to eat during the movie — restaurant critic Ian Froeb suggests some restaurants near the area's cinemas.
You don't lack for choices near the Mercantile Exchange, including Pi Pizzeria and Sugarfire Smoke House and their respective spinoffs, Gringo and the Hi-Pointe Drive-In. Speaking of spinoffs: Around the corner from Hi-Pointe is Kiin Essentially Thai, an offshoot of the great Thai restaurant Fork & Stix.

Chase Park Plaza Cinemas
You are in the heart of the Central West End, with many options, from the new and hot (Yellowbelly) to the local star chef (Gerard Craft's Brasserie by Niche and Taste) to the global brand (Shake Shack). A less buzzed about choice? Try the shawarma and other Lebanese dishes at Taste of Lebanon.
Where Chase Park Plaza Cinemas, 212 North Kingshighway
The Hi-Pointe Theatre is within walking distance of Hi-Pointe Drive-In and the Cheshire, home of Basso and Boundary. A longer walk or a very short drive brings you to the magnificent Louie. You had better plan ahead for dinner at Louie, though.
Where Hi-Pointe Theatre, 1005 McCausland Avenue
AMC Esquire 7
Grab an Italian beef, chicken Parmesan or other sandwich at Fozzie's Sandwich Emporium, or sit down for a hearty dinner of tagliatelle with Bolognese at the revived Del Pietro's. You are also not far from the Cheshire, where Nick Blue (Sardella, Sugarfire Smoke House) has given Boundary a new menu.
Where AMC Esquire 7, 6706 Clayton Road, Richmond Heights
The 24:1 Cinema is about a five-minute drive from the Delmar Loop and its numerous restaurants (see the Tivoli Theatre entry that follows), but if you drive west on Page Avenue into Overland, you can dine at STL 100 honoree Taqueria Durango or my favorite wing restaurant in St. Louis, O! Wing Plus. (Get the Beast Mode wings if you like heat.)
Where 24:1 Cinema, 6755 Page Avenue, Pagedale
You are spoiled for choices in the Delmar Loop, with STL 100 mainstays Salt + Smoke, Mission Taco Joint and Fork & Stix among the many options. There are also previous STL 100 honorees Ranoush and Pi Pizzeria, and intriguing new restaurants like Perfect Taste, featuring Sichuan fare, and Masala Indian & Pakistani Cuisine, from the owners of another former STL 100 honoree, Spice-n-Grill.
Where Tivoli Theatre, 6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City
The play here is to leave the Saint Louis Galleria and Richmond Heights entirely for nearby Brentwood and go to Mai Lee or, if you want something quicker, Lion's Choice. If you don't want to venture that far, try Yen Ching across the street from the mall.
Where Galleria 6, 1155 Saint Louis Galleria, Richmond Heights
AMC Classic Creve Coeur 12 and Plaza Frontenac Cinema
AMC Classic Creve Coeur 12 is in the same shopping plaza as the Korean-barbecue restaurant Seoul Garden. You are also a short drive from the deli Pumpernickels and STL 100 honoree Nudo House. Of all the dishes I don't recommend you try to sneak into a theater, Nudo House's ramen might be the most daring.
As for Plaza Frontenac Cinema, the closure of Cardwell's at the Plaza removes the slam-dunk suggestion. Head west to Sugo's Spaghetteria or east for Sportsman's Park Restaurant & Bar. (Or north, for that matter, to the AMC Classic Creve Coeur 12 suggestions.)
Correction: This post originally identified Pumpernickles as Kosher. It calls itself "Kosher style" on its website, but is not Kosher.

Marcus Ronnie's Cinema + IMAX
Ronnie's shares a shopping plaza with Three Kings Public House and is across South Lindbergh Boulevard from both Roberto's Trattoria and Joey B's Food & Drink. My first choice, though, would be nearby SoCo's Gyros for its signature gyros.
Where Marcus Ronnie's Cinema + IMAX, 5320 South Lindbergh Boulevard
Marcus Des Peres Cinema
Venture a little farther west on Manchester Road from Marcus Des Peres Cinema for Indian fare at Saffron Indian Cuisine. Venture a little farther still for Nick Bognar's acclaimed sushi at Nippon Tei or the ramen at the adjacent Ramen Tei.
Where Marcus Des Peres Cinema, 12701 Manchester Road, Des Peres
AMC Dine-In West Olive 16
OK, so you are probably not grabbing a bite to eat before or after going to a dine-in theater. But if you are, the AMC Dine-In West Olive 16 is close to two Indian restaurants, Mayuri and Anis Hyderabad House, as well as the turkey- and chicken-intensive barbecue restaurant, Gobble Stop Smokehouse.
Where AMC Dine-In West Olive 16, 12657 Olive Boulevard, Creve Coeur
AMC Classic Chesterfield 14
The mall to which the AMC Classic Chesterfield 14 is attached might be, uh, on the quiet side these days, but options abound nearby, including a location of Sauce on the Side and the new fast-casual southern Indian restaurant the Curry Club, which I recently reviewed.
Where AMC Classic Chesterfield 14, 3000 Chesterfield Mall, Chesterfield
Marcus Chesterfield Cinema
National chains dominate this crowded stretch of Chesterfield Airport Road, but you can seek out Italian fare at Michael Del Pietro's Babbo's Spaghetteria or Mexican at Espino's Mexican Bar & Grill. For something fancier, Annie Gunn's and the Smokehouse Market are right up the road.
Where Marcus Chesterfield Cinema, 450 THF Boulevard, Chesterfield
AMC Streets of St. Charles 8, Marcus St. Charles Cinema and Marcus Mid Rivers Cinema
The AMC theater is part of the Streets of St. Charles development, which includes a Mission Taco Joint, a Dewey's Pizza and Prasino. The Marcus St. Charles Cinema isn't that far from the same development, but you can also head to Two Plumbers Brewery + Arcade, where STL 100 mainstay Guerrilla Street Food has opened a stand.
As for Marcus Mid Rivers Cinema, if I'm that far west on Interstate 70, I'm 100 percent going to Lil Mickey's Memphis BBQ.

Marcus O'Fallon Cinema and AMC Edwardsville 12
For Marcus' O'Fallon, Ill., cinema, the go-to has to be the expansive (or, "bonkers," as I termed it) menu of Hop House Southern Eatery, where you can order burgers, pizza, barbecue, fried chicken and more (and more).
The AMC Edwardsville 12 isn't that far from perennial STL 100 honoree Cleveland-Heath, but two closer choices I like are the barbecue restaurant Doc's Smokehouse & Catering and the Mexican restaurant Catrinas.
Where Marcus O'Fallon Cinema, 1320 Central Park Drive, O'Fallon, Ill.
Where AMC Edwardsville 12, 6633 Center Grove Road, Edwardsville
Marcus Arnold Cinema and Regal Cinemas Gravois Bluff 12
From Marcus Arnold Cinema, you are a roughly 10-minute drive from Smokee Mo's BBQ, home of the showstopping Mangia Bene sandwich: smoked brisket and white barbecue sauce on garlic-Provel bread. A location of Yiro/Gyro is a short drive from Regal Cinemas Gravois Bluff 12.
