Eat-Rite Diner, the tiny institution at the corner of Chouteau Avenue and South Seventh Street, has closed at least temporarily — and possibly for good.
Off the Menu heard news of Eat-Rite's possible closure on Tuesday afternoon. We arrived at the restaurant shortly thereafter, and owner L.B. Powers told us the immediate reason for closing was mechanical issues with the exhaust fan.
However, Powers said he "honestly (doesn't) know" if Eat-Rite will reopen.
"I'm 80 years old," he said. "I'm not in good health."
If Eat-Rite does reopen, Powers says, it won't be for at least two weeks.
