STL teen wins national Jewish award for volunteer work

Jessica Goldberg, 17, a rising senior at John Burroughs High is one of 15 recipients of the 2016 Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards.

The Diller awards are given, along with $36,000, to Jewish teens who show a commitment to social welfare and volunteer service.

The daughter of Mark and Amy Goldberg, Jessica will receive her check and award at a ceremony Aug. 22 in San Francisco.

Jessica is being honored for starting "Performing for Pencils," a non-profit effort that stages an annual talent show to raise money to buy school supplies for disadvantaged students.
