Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Jewish New Year and the High Holidays, is observed this year Sept. 29 - Oct. 1. The High Holidays conclude with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, Oct. 8-9.

A Rosh Hashanah Community Tashlich and Shofar service was held outside the Chabad of Greater St. Louis, Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, in University City. Tashlich is an ancient practice customarily performed on the first day of Rosh Hashanah. A brief prayer is recited near a body of water, preferably containing live fish; in which people express their prayerful hope that God will cast their indiscretions into the depths of the sea.
