Q • My green bean seedlings are full of holes. I cannot find any pests on the ground or on the leaves that may be causing the problem. It is only the bean crops that have this problem. I have a veggie garden full of other options, but this pest likes its beans. I also have a problem with my hostas. Again, I have been unable to actually see a pest on the plants.
A • Mexican bean beetles and bean leaf beetles are likely suspects, but small hail stones from severe storms can also produce similar damage. For control options, see tinyurl.com/ycmo8ots or tinyurl.com/ybl96kjt.
The same control measures for cucumber beetles can be used for Mexican bean beetles. See tinyurl.com/y95q95ys.
The most likely pest causing similar damage to hosta foliage are slugs. For details, see tinyurl.com/ljhdkv6.
