Cottleville home is filled with custom details

Living in nearby St. Peters, Ashley and Trey Dorman had always been fond of the Cottleville area; so when they were ready to move, they decided to build a new home there. They chose a quiet court development by Lombardo Homes and closed on their new house in December 2016.

“We wanted more space and a different style, a flat yard and an open plan,” Ashley says. “With Lombardo, they let us customize everything.”

The four-bedroom, three-and-a half-bath house is the perfect layout for their busy family of four with a main-level suite, and second-floor bedrooms separated by a jack-and-jill bathroom for their two daughters, Kinley and Gia. The open concept offers a spacious living room with soaring two-story ceilings and a wall of windows overlooking the swimming pool, as well as a chef’s kitchen with a huge center island and an everyday dining area.

A formal dining room with a striking recessed ceiling sits off the entry foyer across from a private home office separated by sliding barn doors. The foyer features a criss-cross patterned floor of hardwood with inlaid tile, creating an instant impression.

Beautiful details like scraped hardwood floors, ceiling-high stone over the fireplace, built-in lighted bookshelves and an ornate arched double front door are on display throughout the main floor. The Dormans added a few of their own special touches as well, including working with a neighbor who lays tile to create a striking backsplash above the range and surrounding the refrigerator in the kitchen.

A cheery hearth room off the kitchen, painted bright teal, leads out to an elevated deck with a dining table and grill. Accordion-style glass doors allow the room to be opened fully to the outdoors.

Bifold glass doors allow the space to be fully open to the outdoors for entertaining. A cozy fire pit surrounded by comfortable chairs is nestled in an Astroturf-covered nook close to the house for chilly fall evenings. On the opposite end of the pool, a pergola houses a TV, outdoor fireplace and seating area.

“We enjoy spending time together on the outside deck and entertaining under the pergola year-round,” says Trey. “The furniture in that space makes it feel like an extension of the indoor space but with the backdrop of trees and outdoor fireplace.”

The main-floor suite provides a relaxing sanctuary from daily life. High, recessed ceilings framed by crown molding and a bay window make the room feel even larger than it is. The Dormans added visual interest with a feature wall of barn wood behind the tufted bed, accented with small hanging crystal chandeliers on either side. The large bath includes a separate shower and deep soaking tub surrounded in marble.

A decorative iron staircase leads upstairs to a loft-style family room/playroom overlooking the living room that houses all of the girls’ toys and provides them with their own space to enjoy, with their bedrooms nearby.

The Dormans are fully enjoying life in Cottleville and their new subdivision. “The neighborhood is full of wonderful neighbors that have become good friends. The community is just big enough but also small enough to feel intimate,” says Trey.
