UPDATED AT 12:45 p.m.

A 29-year-old Union man died Saturday after he struck his head while cliff jumping with friends on the Meramec River near Leasburg.

Jonathon Garcilaso was pulled from about five feet of water at 6:50 p.m., about two hours after he hit his head and did not resurface, according to the Missouri Water Patrol. A large group witnessed the accident, which occurred on the river just above Onondaga Cave State Park.

Garcilaso was not wearing a flotation device.
