Longtime radio general manager John Beck — left without an STL station to manage when Emmis Communications sold its local stations in February — now will ride some waves in Arizona.

Beck and two partners, operating under the banner of Stone Canyon Radio & Marketing, agreed Monday to purchase four station in the Flagstaff, Ariz. area from Grenax II Broadcasting, LLC, a press release states.

The roster includes a classic-rock station, a talk-radio station, a country station and an oldies station.

Beck, who still is senior vice president at Emmis, will remain in St. Louis, the release states. The partnership will take over the stations once FCC approval is secured.

Beck had been general manager for the local Emmis stations ever since it entered the St. Louis market in 1984, when it bought legacy rock station KSHE (94.7 FM) from Century Broadcasting.

In January, the Indianapolis-based Emmis sold all of its STL interests: KSHE and alternative-rock KPNT (105.7 FM) to Hubbard Radio; and conservative-talk station KFTK (97.1 FM) and adult-hits station KNOU (96.3 FM) to Entercom Communications.
