A team of Vikings — not the Minnesota ones, but those from Parkway North High — has won a national championship.

Joseph KangSydney KingVanessa Lawrie, Varun Shenoy and Luis Schneegans won the top prize in the Lexus Eco-Challenge scholarship program. The winners in a variety of categories were announced last week.

The team, which already had won $10,000 in preliminary competition, picked up another $15,000 for their success in the final round.

They competed in the "Air & Climate" category and tackled the problem of how fertilizer production negatively affects climate.

The Lexus Eco Challenge, a national scholarship competition for U.S. teens in grades 6-12, has awarded more than $5 million since it began in 2007.
