Joe Holleman is a reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

When "The Rock" rolls out the first episode of his new television show, an STL man will be front and center.

Longtime metro man Derik Scott will be one of the contestants on Dwayne Johnson's "The Titan Games," which makes it debut at 7 p.m. Thursday on KSDK (Channel 5).

Scott, a lawyer and professional mixed martial-arts fighter, grew up in Jefferson County and then south St. Louis County.

He is a 2006 graduate of Lindbergh High and a 2009 grad of Lindenwood University, where he competed on the diving team.

"I got my law degree from Baylor University and practiced down in the Dallas area for awhile," Scott said. He moved back to STL in 2015 and stayed until this past summer, when he took a job as general counsel for a chain of fitness centers.

His parents, Kevin and Dana Scott, still live in South County and his girlfriend, Taylor Scott, is a Parkway West alum. And yes, her last name is Scott.

The show is from the producers of the "American Ninja Warriors" string of shows and features athletes facing various physical challenges.

Said Scott, "With NBC, 'The Rock' and the American Ninja people involved, it has been awesome, just unbelievable."
