Anybody got an old gym to spare?
Hollywood location scouts have been combing the Metro East area for locations to shoot a new movie, "The Boys of Lincoln Place."
John Ferry, Granite City's economic development director, said he has been working with a production company to find shooting locations. "They were planning to start (shooting) in the spring, but I'd think it'll be fall before they get going," he said.
Ferry said William Hurt recently signed on to star in the film, and that Sally Field already had been mentioned in connection with a starring role.
Hurt is no stranger to shooting in STL. He starred in the 1999 film "The Big Brass Ring," which was directed by STL native George Hickenlooper.
Ferry said the last time he met with producers, they were in Granite City and Madison County to look for an old gymnasium, ala the "Hoosiers" home court.
Originally titled "Men of Granite" — after the book about Granite City's 1940 Illinois state basketball championship team, made up mostly of the children of poor eastern European immigrants — the name was recently changed to recognize the depressed section of Granite City where the immigrants lived.
The projected release date is 2015, according to the Internet Movie Database, which also mentions Kevin Dunn ("Veep") as a possible cast member.
