"Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power"

Last week I noted that the first author has been booked for the St. Louis Public Library's new auditorium. The library opens to the public Dec. 9, and the author event is Dec. 13.

But Charlie Brennan has since told me some news: He's booked Jon Meacham there Dec. 6. Meacham will talk about Thomas Jefferson for Brennan's KMOX/Fontbonne University book club. The night before, Meacham is scheduled to speak at Maryville University.

A library spokesman confirmed that the KMOX event, which has not yet been announced by Brennan, will be in the new auditorium. It will require reservations. More details will be coming closer to the event.

The library's Gerald Brooks did say that attendees will not get to roam around the library. They will enter from the back (Locust Street) and will be directed to the auditorium.

So, it looks like Brennan has the first author event in what will be the newly renovated library. The library is discouraging requests for other early bookings.

In the meantime, don't forget that Brennan's next book club event is Friday with Tony La Russa. That event requires the purchase of La Russa's memoir, "One Last Strike."
