Illinois police seek hit-and-run vehicle

COLLINSVILLE • Illinois State Police continue to look for a vehicle that hit a pedestrian near Edwardsville just after midnight on Jan. 11, leaving him in critical condition.

Richard L. Hicks, 25, of Edwardsville was walking south on Illinois Route 157 near Mooney Creek Lane when he was struck by a northbound vehicle and dragged about 960 feet before being hit by a southbound Illinois Department of Transportation snowplow.

The vehicle that hit Hicks fled the scene. A witness told police it was a large silver Ford SUV or full-size Ford pickup with a camper shell. Police found a Ford grill emblem at the scene.

Lt. Brad Parsons, the interim commander of State Police District 11, said: "I find it hard to believe you don't know you dragged someone 960 feet. Whoever did this knows he/she did it and is trying to hide it. Someone out there has the information that may just bring this person to justice."

Anyone with information that may be related to the accident is urged to call Trooper Kris Gebke at 618-346-3651.
