WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ill. • A teen pick-up truck driver was charged with illegal cellphone usage among other charges after she struck a bicyclist from behind on Illinois 15, just east of Illinois 153 on Thursday evening, police said.

David P. Weber, 63, of Venedy, Ill., was taken to Washington County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Illinois State Police

Weber was riding a Specialized Roubaix bicycle eastbound on Illinois 15 when a 1997 Ford F-150 driven by a 17-year-old female, of the New Baden area, struck him from behind, causing Weber to be thrown from the bike, police said. He came to rest south of Route 15.

The driver of the pickup truck was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, improper passing of a bicycle and illegal cellphone usage, police said.
