ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Fire Department recovered a body Monday night from the Mississippi River near South Broadway, according to spokesman Leon Whitener.

The "very badly decomposed" body had no legs and is being sent to the medical examiner's office for identification, Whitener said.

Firefighters got the call about a body in the river at 750 East Davis Street shortly after 7 p.m., and by 8:30 p.m. Whitener said the body had been recovered.
