TROY, Mo.   •   A man and his girlfriend face child endangerment charges after they were found in a motel room Saturday with apparent prescription drug overdoses while the man's two young daughters were present, authorities said.

Police said Jesse George Bass, 40, and Michelle Dundee, 33, of northeast Missouri, were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Troy for treatment and later to the Lincoln County Jail.

A spokesman for Troy police, Det. Tony Stewart, said the prescription pill bottles were on the table and dresser within the reach of the two children, who are three and five years old. The children were placed in the custody of the Missouri Children's Division.

According to court records, emergency personnel were called to the motel after one of the children told a person staying in another room that her dad was sick and needed help. Bass was found lying on the floor and Dundee on a bed, both apparently unconscious, court records said.

Authorities listed addresses for the couple in far northeast Missouri.
