ST. LOUIS • A former local union official was convicted by a federal jury Thursday of embezzling about $40,660 in union funds, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

Anthony Davis, 51, of O'Fallon, Ill., was president of Mail Handlers Local 314 in Hazelwood, and defrauded the union by submitting fake invoices for payment, prosecutors said.

Davis could face up to five years in prison, they said.

Local 314 represents mail handlers in three U.S. Postal Service locations in St. Louis and one in Columbia, prosecutors said.
