UPDATED at 11:20 a.m. Sunday to correct name of person shot.

BARNHART • An employee of Karsch’s Village Market fatally shot a man who allegedly threatened him with a gun Thursday morning, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The man who died was identified as Robert Larson, 48, of Imperial.

Larson allegedly caused a disturbance in the grocery store at 1730 Old State Road M about 10:20 a.m., said Capt. Ron Arnhart. Larson appeared to be drunk, according to witnesses. Two employees followed Larson to the parking lot in hopes of stalling him until deputies arrived so he wouldn’t drive drunk.

Larson pulled a handgun from his vehicle and pointed it at them, Arnhart said. One of the employees has a concealed-carry permit and had his own gun. That employee, a 23-year-old Imperial man, shot Larson, who died at the scene, Arnhart said.

The employee was not taken into custody. Arnhart did not release his name.
