LAKE OF THE OZARKS • A Hazelwood man is dead and two others injured after a boat accident Saturday at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Edward W. Sandt, 62, was driving his 1997 Bass Tracker just after 7 a.m. with his brother, according to an incident report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Sandt’s boat was exiting Workman Hollow Cove, a serpentine arm of the lake lined with houses and docks, “at a high rate of speed” when it crossed into the path of a second boat, the patrol said.
The second boat, steered by Philip C. McKemie, of St. Louis, turned to the right to avoid Sandt. Sandt turned left, and hit McKemie’s boat, the patrol said. The impact threw Sandt into the water. Sandt’s own boat circled, and hit him.
Sandt was pronounced dead at 8:20 a.m. His brother, Francis J. Sandt, of St. Charles, was seriously injured, the patrol said.
An occupant in McKemie’s boat, Mark W. Schaefer, of Fenton, suffered minor injuries in the crash.
