JEFFERSON COUNTY • A man was shot in the leg by a deputy as he charged at officers with a knife on Thursday evening, Jefferson County sheriff’s officials said.
The man was shot once and was stable, officials said.
Deputies were responding to a disturbance call about 6:30 p.m. at a residence near U.S. Highway 67 and Highway 110. They went to look for three men who had been involved in the disturbance and found two of them at a nearby gas station on Athena School Road.

One of the men, who is known to law enforcement, told officers he was not going to go back to jail and charged at them with a knife. A deputy fired a gun at him, striking him once, police said.
A Taser was also used, according to a tweet from Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak.
The man was taken to a hospital. A knife was recovered at the scene.
The second man was arrested on outstanding warrants.
