A man and his two young stepdaughters were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Camden County, the Highway Patrol said.

Robert J. Kroll, 35, of Tunas, Mo., was driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck shortly after 5 p.m. Monday. The truck was eastbound on U.S. 54 when it crossed the center line and struck a Chevrolet Avalanche head-on, the patrol said.

Kroll was pronounced dead at the scene. Miley Howard, 7, of Mack's Creek, also was pronounced dead at the scene. The second child, Hailey Loyd, 5, also of Mack's Creek, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 58-year-old Camdenton man, was taken to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach with moderate injuries.

The little girls were wearing seat belts; Kroll was not.
