O'FALLON, Mo. • Police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old former minor league baseball player whose body was found under the Peruque Creek Bridge Sunday night.

Kent Gerst of the 1300 block of Turtle Creek Drive in O'Fallon had been reported missing about 5:50 p.m. Sunday. Police said Gerst was last seen about 10:15 p.m. Saturday at a shopping plaza near West Terra Lane and Peruque Crossing Court.

Officers found Gerst's body under the bridge at 10:41 p.m.

Gerst was an eighth-round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox in 2006 but was released in 2010. He later was signed by the Gateway Grizzlies, an independent minor-league team in Sauget. He was a graduate of Fort Zumwalt West High School.
