ST. LOUIS • A Pagedale man has been charged with hitting and killing a pedestrian with his car in Fairground Park, then fleeing, in September.

Emond C. Washington, 23, of the 1300 block of Milford Avenue, was charged Friday with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash and driving on a suspended license. He was being held Tuesday on a $200,000 cash-only bail.

Nathaniel Thomas, 29, died after being hit by a car in the park about 5:25 p.m. on Sept. 27. Police say a witness reported seeing Washington speeding and weaving in a Pontiac G6, then hitting Thomas and fleeing the scene.

Police said the Pontiac was heading south in the northbound lanes when it hit Thomas as he was crossing the street. Thomas was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Thomas lived in the 5300 block of Wabada Avenue, police said.
