ST. LOUIS • A man who was a passenger in a fatal car crash this week has been charged in a Dec. 8 murder, and the driver of the car was charged in a carjacking.
The fatal crash happened Sunday night in the 4000 block of West Belle Place in St. Louis. One of the passengers in the stolen car, Hanna Shuppert, 20, of Festus, was killed when it crashed into a parked vehicle and a tree.
The driver, Malik Henderson, was in critical condition Thursday, as was another female passenger.
A third passenger, Terriawn Watkins, 20, of the 4000 block of North 22nd Street, has been released from a hospital after the crash and was charged Thursday with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the December homicide.
In that shooting, William Duvall, 25, was found collapsed on the front porch of a home in the 4100 block of Enright Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. He had lived in the 2600 block of Osage Street, police said.
Meanwhile, the driver of the crashed car was charged Tuesday with robbery and armed criminal action for taking a Nissan Altima on Jan. 14. Court documents in that case say Henderson walked up to a man in the 1300 block of North Sarah Street holding a gun and demanded the victim's keys. The victim identified Henderson in a photo lineup and identified the gun.
A loaded handgun was found in the car at the time of the crash, and that car had also been reported stolen, police said.
Henderson, 18, of the 1300 block of Kingsland Avenue, is also being investigated for an additional robbery, court documents say. His criminal history includes third-degree domestic assault, first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
