Gov. Jay Nixon on Friday appointed Associate Circuit Judge Paula Perkins Bryant as circuit judge for the 22nd Judicial Circuit, which covers St. Louis.
Bryant, of St. Louis, will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of the Margaret Neill.
Bryant has served on the associate circuit court since 2004 and has presided over both civil and criminal cases, a release from Nixon's office said. She also serves as an adjunct professor of legal studies at Webster University.
Bryant was an assistant circuit attorney in St. Louis from 1993 to 2004, in private practice from 1991 to 1993 and an assistant public defender from 1987 to 1991.
She was one of three applicants submitted to Nixon for consideration for the open judicial seat.
