ST. LOUIS COUNTY • Police found a dead man inside a car during a traffic stop Thursday night.
The 25-year-old man, in the back seat of the car, had been fatally shot. He was identified Friday as Montrel Williams, of the 10600 block of Vorhof Drive in north St. Louis County. Officers stopped the car at the intersection of Natural Bridge Road and Lucas and Hunt Road, apparently after an earlier car theft or carjacking.
Williams' death appears to be connected with a robbery and struggle inside the car, said St. Louis County Police Officer Shawn McGuire. St. John police asked the County Police Department to take over the case at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday.
McGuire said he didn't know details about why police originally stopped the car. No one from the St. John police force could be reached Friday.
McGuire said detectives believe they have everyone in custody who is connected with the case. Police aren't looking for any additional suspects, he said. Detectives were still piecing together what happened and haven't released any additional details about the death.
