ST. LOUIS • Police released surveillance photos Monday of a woman who stole fake hair from a store on Delmar Boulevard and ran over an employee with her car as she fled.

The suspect approached the counter of Hair City, 5837 Delmar Boulevard, on Aug. 5 to buy four packs of artificial hair, according to police. She asked an employee for another item on the wall behind him and ran off with the hair when he turned his back.

Another employee witnessed the theft and tried to stop the suspect as she got in her car, police said. The employee reached inside the car to try to grab the hair and was knocked back when the suspect put her car in reverse. The suspect hit the employee with her car again as she drove away.

The employee, a 43-year-old woman, was taken to a nearby hospital with an injury to the back of her head and tire marks on her leg. She was later listed in stable condition, police said Monday.

Police described the suspect as a woman in her 20s with a heavy build, black and red medium-length hair, and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants and driving east on Delmar Boulevard in a blue or green four-door Chevrolet Cobalt.

Police ask anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 866-371-8477.
