UPDATED at 6:20 p.m. with name of victim and other details.
A 64-year-old man was found dead in the front yard of his home in a quiet St. Charles neighborhood Thursday morning.
The man was identified by police Thursday evening as Roy Cedric Nash.
The St. Charles Police Department has asked for help from the Major Case Squad in the homicide investigation. Authorities have not said how the man died.
But they did say Thursday evening that they do not believe the crime was random.
"The Major Case Squad believes the victim, who was found deceased in the front yard of his residence, to have been associated and targeted by his attacker and that this was not a random act of violence," a release from St. Charles police said. "As the investigation continues to develop we want to assure the public the neighborhood where this incident occurred is safe.
Officers were called about 7 a.m. to a home in the 1800 block of Willow Oak Drive, off of Fifth Street south of Interstate 70.
The man found dead lived alone there, police said.
Lt. Tom Wilkison, public information officer with St. Charles Police, said the Major Case Squad is in the process of developing leads in the investigation.
