CLAYTON • A St. Louis County jury has found John "Birdie" Trevillion not guilty of first-degree murder.
Trevillion, then 31, was charged in January 2014 with the murder of Brian Jordan, 25, and the near fatal shooting of another man. The shooting took place Jan. 6 at a home in the 4700 block of Fletcher Street in Northwoods.
Police believed the killing was drug-related.
Jordan of the 2200 block of Crandell Drive was shot twice in the head. Another victim, Tony West, then 25, was shot in the same attack, but survived.
St. Louis County police arrested Trevillion in the 5900 block of Lalite Avenue in St. Louis and prosecutors charged him with four felonies.
Court documents said that witnesses identified Trevillion as the man who shot Jordan and West.
But a jury deliberated about five hours March 4 before acquitting Trevillion of first-degree murder, first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action.
His attorney, Kim Freter, declined to comment as did St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch's spokesman, Ed Magee.
Trevillion, whose last known address was the 3900 block of Beachwood Avenue in Pine Lawn, was paroled from prison on Sept. 25, 2012, after serving 11 years and seven months for murdering someone in St. Louis in April 1998, records show.
In that case, a Dellwood man was killed in a drive-by shooting in the 2100 block of East Alice Avenue. Douglas Reed, 34, was shot in the side and died a few hours later.
