WELLSTON • Police have arrested a woman for allegedly setting a man on fire after he refused to give her money.

The North County Police Cooperative said a 51-year-old man was getting his car repaired in the 6200 block of Page Avenue in Wellston on Monday. A woman, later identified by police as Willene Collins, approached the man and asked him for money.

When the man refused, police say Collins grabbed a nearby gas can and dumped gasoline on the victim. She then grabbed a lighter and set the man on fire.

The man received severe burns to his upper body.

St. Louis County prosecutors issued a warrant for first-degree assault.

Collins, 31, is being held on a $100,000 cash bond. She lives in the 10400 block of Earl Drive in the Castle Point area of St. Louis County, according to police.
