Anthony Patrick Jr., 26, of the 2400 block of Menard Street, was charged with one count of felony child abuse or neglect causing serious injury.

According to charges, police were summoned to Cardinal Glennon Medical Center on Friday to investigate a severe burn to the child. Police said Patrick told them the child was burned by putting him in a sink of hot water, but doctors also found a severe brain injury requiring surgery, lacerations to the boy's liver and a blood clot near the child's kidneys.

Doctors told police the child's injuries were not accidental, charges say.

Bail for Patrick was set at $250,000 cash. His criminal history includes convictions of robbery, tampering and resisting arrest.
