ST. LOUIS • A St. Louis man has been charged after police say he struck a woman and a six-year-old boy with his car on Monday night and left the scene.

Menkara Rahman, 34, of the 1500 block of Obear Avenue, was charged Wednesday with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident. St. Louis police said an off-duty officer saw the victims lying in the intersection of North Grand Boulevard and Natural Bridge Avenue after being struck. The vehicle, a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo with rims, was last seen driving west on Natural Bridge.

The victims were taken to hospitals, and the woman, 23, who is eight months pregnant, suffered internal injuries and was listed in serious but stable condition. The unborn baby did not appear to be hurt, police said. The boy suffered a broken leg and internal injuries and was listed in serious but stable condition.

Rahman was in the St. Louis City Jail on a $35,000 cash-only bail.
