ST. LOUIS • A 23-year-old man was shot in the stomach Tuesday afternoon in the city's Patch neighborhood during a domestic situation, and police took the person they believe shot him into custody at the scene.

Shortly after 1 p.m., police were called to the 7400 block of Pennsylvania for a report of a shooting. They found the victim unconscious but breathing.

Lt. Scott Aubuchon said all of the family members are cooperating with the investigation, but he would not disclose the relationship between the victim and the shooter.

Police called an ambulance to the scene when an older woman started having trouble breathing as homicide detectives talked to her.

Aubuchon confirmed that homicide detectives have assumed control of the investigation due to the "seriousness of the injury."

Overall crime in the Patch neighborhood is up 6.4 percent from the same six-month period a year ago.
