ST. LOUIS • City law officers will work in pairs until further notice because of the murders of officers by snipers in Dallas, said Police Chief Sam Dotson.

In a statement, Dotson also said all officers must wear ballistic vests while on duty outside of police stations.

"Due to events unfolding in Dallas, Texas, effective immediately, all on-duty officers will work in pairs until further notice," Dotson wrote. "No police officers, park rangers or marshals will be sent or handle any assignments without a partner."

Snipers in Dallas killed five police officers and wounded six others during a "Black Lives Matter" protest event Thursday evening.
