ST. LOUIS   •   Police are trying to identify a man found shot to death shortly after 1 a.m. in the city's College Hill neighborhood.

The man, who had no identification on him, was found on the ground next to the driver's side of a vehicle in the 1500 block of Linton Avenue, authorities said. Police had responded there after receiving reports of a shooting. The man was pronounced dead at the crime scene.

Police had no suspects Thursday morning.

St. Louis' College Hill neighborhood and surrounding blocks have had several shootings and killings in recent months. Police in February identified the area as a crime "hot spot" and sent about 80 police officers there to quell the violence. That 10-day effort ended Feb. 17, with police saying they arrested 40 people and recovered five guns.
