UNIVERSITY CITY • The grandson of a former superintendent of University City schools was killed in a double shooting Wednesday, authorities say.
The victim, 17, was a junior at Lieberman Learning Center. Authorities identified him as Taylor Simpson and gave an address for him in the 500 block of Versailles Drive in Florissant.
Police say he was shot about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 8300 block of Braddock Drive. The motive was unclear.
University City Police Capt. Fredrick Lemons II said Simpson was shot multiple times. He died at a hospital.
Two other victims had minor injuries. One was grazed by a bullet. He was treated and released from a hospital; the third suffered some scrapes but wasn’t shot. He refused medical treatment, Lemons said.
The survivors and other witnesses told police that two people in a dark-colored sedan drove by and opened fire. The car sped off, heading west on Kempland Place.
Police had made no arrests on Thursday.

The school district was reeling Thursday. Patricia Washington, a district spokeswoman, called it “devastating.” She cried as she confirmed to a Post-Dispatch reporter the connection between the teen who died and Joylynn Pruitt, who retired as superintendent of schools last year.
Lieberman Learning Center is an alternative school at 8136 Groby Road. It is about a mile from the crime scene.
Simpson had previously attended University City High School.
