Leonard T. Ingram, a tow truck driver, was charged on Feb. 20, 2013, with stealing a vehicle that had broken down on Interstate 70 near Earth City.

A tow truck driver is accused of stealing a vehicle that had broken down on the side of Interstate 70, St. Louis County police say.

Leonard T. Ingram, 55, of the 800 block of Holland Avenue, was charged Wednesday with one count of stealing a motor vehicle.

Ingram allegedly took the vehicle earlier this month from I-70 near Earth City while driving a tow truck for Ingram Towing of Webster Groves.

Police said he also stole a vehicle that had broken down near Interstate 270 and Lewis and Clark Boulevard. The date of that theft was unclear.

Ingram was being held Thursday in lieu of $25,000 bail.

In October, Ingram was charged with attempted vehicle theft. That incident also involved a tow truck, police said.

Police said that Ingram Towing primarily hauls scrapped cars but has not had a city or country license since June.

Authorities urge anyone who suspects suspicious towing activity to all Crimestoppers at 314-725-8477.
