Tradell Devon Buckner, of Berkeley, and Jaymone Kaithon Lewis, of Florissant, pleaded guilty in the shooting death of a Bellefontaine Neighbors man.

BELLEFONTAINE NEIGHBORS • Two men have been charged with second-degree murder, attempted robbery and other charges in the shooting death of a Bellefontaine Neighbors man last week.

Charged were Jaymone Lewis, 18, of the 11400 block of Las Ladera Drive in Florissant; and Tradell Buckner, 20, of the 6100 block of Hancock Avenue in Berkeley. They are charged with killing Ian Smith, of Bellefontaine Neighbors, during a robbery attempt about 10:30 a.m. Aug. 3 at Shepley Drive and Gardo Court, near Riverview Gardens High School.

Authorities said the shots were fired from a white Ford Focus. Smith’s body was found in a nearby back yard.

Lewis and Buckner also were charged with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. They surrendered to Bellefontaine Neighbors police at separate times on Tu

Bail for each man was set at $1 million.

Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Chief Jeremy Ihler said of Smith, “We know of no reason why he was targeted. He did nothing to cause them to want to harm him. He appears to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
