KINGDOM CITY, Mo. • Two people from the St. Louis area were killed Saturday on Interstate 70 when their westbound sports car breached the median barrier and collided head-on with another car, according to the Missouri Highway patrol.
The driver of the eastbound car, also from the St. Louis area, suffered serious injuries.
The patrol identified the deceased as Darrell Burgess, 64, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and Beverly J. Burgess, 81, who was pronounced dead at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. She had been taken there by medical helicopter.
The patrol said Darrell Burgess was driving westbound in a 2003 Jaguar XK8 at 10 a.m. when his car went into the median east of Kingdom City, slipped beneath the cable barrier and went airborne. It just missed one eastbound car and then collided head-on with a 1998 Honda Civic driven by Darion Jordan, 24. He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital.
