FENTON — A 78-year-old woman stabbed her daughter to death Tuesday at a hotel here before trying to suffocate herself, St. Louis County police say.
On Tuesday afternoon, police identified the dead woman as 51-year-old Sharon Theleman and said that the suspect, Marjorie Theleman, was still hospitalized and has been charged.
Marjorie Theleman is facing one count of first-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action.
Marjorie Theleman left a note for housekeepers that was intended to explain her actions as well as instruct them to call police, according to the probable cause statement.
Authorities said that Marjorie Theleman removed her daughter from a nursing home and took her to the Holiday Inn Express at 1848 Bowles Avenue.
While in the hotel room, Marjorie Theleman stabbed her daughter with a knife and attempted to suffocate herself with a plastic bag, they said.
Police were called at 12:34 p.m. for a welfare check after the pair didn't check out of their room and found the mother and daughter.
Majorie Theleman was still hospitalized Tuesday afternoon but has a pending $250,000 bond, according to county police.
The incident is being classified as a murder and attempted suicide.
Police are asking anyone with information to call the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210.
