ST. LOUIS  •  The city of St. Louis surpassed 2014's homicide total early Wednesday morning when the 160th homicide victim of the year was found fatally shot.
The victim, Hesiris Staples-Bey, had been on a motorcycle in the 1300 block of Goodfellow Boulevard when he was gunned down at about 2 a.m. Wednesday. Paramedics on their way to a traffic crash scene found the victim at the intersection of Goodfellow and Page boulevards.
Staples-Bey, 43, had been shot multiple times, including in the neck, back, side, chest and abdomen. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.
A witness told police the killer had been in a dark-colored vehicle that pulled alongside Staples-Bey's motorcycle and fired shots at him.

Police had no suspects or motive in this shooting. No further information was available.
Staples-Bey lived in the 5400 block of Vernon Avenue.
The city had 159 homicides in all of 2014. Homicides are also up in St. Louis County, where there have been at least 50 this year. Last year's tally in the county was 37.
