SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Proponents of a measure to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes unveiled a week-long ad campaign this morning they hope will push lawmakers toward passing the proposal.

The sponsors of the proposal, state Sen. William Haine, D-Alton, and state Rep. Lou Lang, D-Skokie, touted the proposal again today as a way to help the seriously ill facing unyielding pain and suffering.

They also showed two new TV ads, which are set to air in Chicago, Peoria, Decatur, Champaign and Springfield.

The Illinois campaign is backed by the national Marijuana Policy Project, which views Illinois as an important battleground state.
