ST. LOUIS • Workers are expected next month to begin reconstructing a portion of Forest Park Parkway in the Central West End, closing a section to traffic for at least a year.
Forest Park Parkway, which currently runs underneath Kingshighway Boulevard near the BJC Healthcare campus, will be raised to connect and be at-grade with Kingshighway.
The parkway will be closed between Euclid Avenue west to Union Boulevard. Traffic will be rerouted.
Work is expected to take a year. It’s meant to make the busy stretch more pedestrian friendly as well as improve traffic flow. The neighborhood has become increasingly dense over the years.
“There are a lot of pluses to it,” said Lyda Krewson, the 28th Ward alderman. “The minus is it’s going to be an inconvenience for a year.”
Funding comes through a mix of federal and private dollars.
