ALTON • An alderman was arrested here Monday night for driving under the influence, Alton Police Chief David Hayes said Thursday.

Myles C. "Mick" McCahill, 42, of the 600 block of Langdon Street in Alton, also was charged with failure to signal and a lane violation.

McCahill has been the alderman for the 2nd Ward since 2009.

Hayes said McCahill was pulled over at 6th Street and Langdon just after 11 p.m. Monday as he headed home from a local tavern where he works. An officer noticed he was impaired. He was arrested on the DUI after failing a field sobriety test.

He was released on bond Tuesday.

Reached by phone Thursday, McCahill said he didn't want to comment on the situation until he read the police report.
