The Waterloo community holds candlelight vigil for Trooper Nick Hopkins on the football field at Waterloo Junior High School on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019. More than a 1,000 people showed up for the vigil. Trooper Hopkins was shot and killed on Aug. 23 in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect as the Illinois State Police SWAT team executed a search warrant at a duplex in East St. Louis. The visitation for Hopkins will be Saturday at Waterloo High School from 3-9 p.m. A first-responder and military walk-through will begin at 6 p.m. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday at Waterloo High School.
