GALESBURG, Ill. • A century-old Galesburg building has been reduced to a pile of debris by a massive fire.
Firefighters spent two hours bringing under control the fire at the former Hawkinson Manufacturing facility on Tuesday, WGIL radio reported.
Fire Chief Tom Simkins said it was obvious within a few minutes that the three-level building would be a total loss. A contractor may have to come in and remove all off the rubble, he said.
One firefighter was hurt when he fell off a ladder. He was taken to Galesburg Cottage Hospital after suffering a broken collar bone and possibly a concussion.
Hawkinson Manufacturing made doors, frames and other items until its closure.
