BRIDGETON • A resolution seeking private development proposals for the 565 acres southwest of Interstates 370 and 270 in Bridgeton was approved by the City Council on Wednesday night.

Most of the land was acquired for airport expansion by the city of St. Louis and remains undeveloped.

UTW Realty, which has completed major developments in Bridgeton, says it is anticipating a retail and office mix for most of the site. But whether the Terrisan Reste Mobile Home Park and an adjacent motel will be razed in the development is unknown.

About a dozen residents from the area attended the council meeting and questioned UTW manager Alan Bornstein.

Bornstein promised to consult with residents as plans develop, but noted state law addresses redevelopment requirements.

Four council members indicated they are supportive of both the development as well as residents’ housing interests.
