COLLINSVILLE • , Tray Turner, the student injured Monday on steps at Collinsville High School, has died.
Tray, 14, died Thursday at 9:30 a.m., according to the student’s family.
He had been injured in what police have called a “tragic accident” on stairs at the school on Monday. He received immediate medical attention at the scene and was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.
A family member remembered the freshman as a loving boy with many friends and a love for music and sports.
“He was just a great kid. He’s going to missed by everyone,” said the relative, who asked not to be named.
District Superintendent Robert Green said in a statement Thursday that the community was deeply saddened by Tray’s death.
“Each student is special, and Tray will be missed. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends,” Green said.
In a statement released by the school, Tray’s family thanked people for their support.
An organization that supports faculty and student needs, KAHOKstrong, announced Wednesday that it would collect donations and gift cards for Tray’s family.
The high school has canceled its homecoming parade Thursday but will collect donations and honor Tray at a football game Friday. Funeral arrangements are pending.
