DES PERES • The Des Peres Board of Aldermen has agreed to participate in the RainScaping Rebate Rewards Program through Missouri Botanical Gardens’ Deer Creek Watershed Alliance.
Residents will have access to the grant program for landscaping projects that will improve storm water management. Beginning in 2013, the grant will provide 75 percent of the cost, up to $2,000, to improve properties regarding storm water issues.
“Residents can create a mechanism where more water is absorbed on the site, rather than having it run off,” City Administrator Doug Harms at the board meeting Monday night.
RainScaping projects could include replacing turf grass with trees or plants, creating native soil rain gardens, woodland restoration, soil amendments, or storm water harvesting methods such as rain barrels or cisterns.
The Deer Creek Watershed encompasses all or part of 22 municipalities including Creve Coeur, Des Peres, Frontenac, Huntleigh, Ladue, Clayton, Maplewood, Richmond Heights, Rock Hill, Webster Groves, and Brentwood.
